The knowledge acquired by the student is integrated into a project that is elaborated during the course. The project developed by the student must be raised from sustainability, in terms of maximum energy efficiency, and from social needs in terms of habitability and costs. Thus, the student will justify, based on these parameters, basic decisions of the project such as location, orientation, compactness, construction system, etc. In the same terms, it will justify technical decisions such as the different energy sources chosen, the design and pre- calculations of the HVACR system, the acoustic conditions, the design and calculation of the electrical and telecommunications system or audiovisual communication; the design and calculation of plumbing and drainage facilities, the integration of correct accessibility and safety for the use of the building, fire protection, maximum energy savings in the building, the integration of home automation systems, the connection of all of them to the existing urban networks, and the conservation and maintenance of all proposed systems and facilities. The student will be instructed in the integration of all the necessary facilities in a building, in the elaboration of projects of buildings facilities, quantification of energy consumption of buildings, and in the project strategies to realise efficient buildings from the energy point of view.

The coursework to be carried out in this subject consist of the integration of the main building services in a proposed building. The student will design the layout for each building service and will carry out the calculations for the most significant parts. The student will also incorporate economic, sustainability bioclimatism and energy considerations.

The students are provided with plans and sections of a project for an administrative – office building. Each student will create a different version based on the original project. The modifications are randomly assigned and are predefined.
